{"id":80,"date":"2015-07-28T06:25:10","date_gmt":"2015-07-28T06:25:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/michaelstoica.com\/?p=80"},"modified":"2015-07-28T06:25:10","modified_gmt":"2015-07-28T06:25:10","slug":"how-to-configure-availability-sets-in-system-center-virtual-machine-manager-2012","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/michaelstoica.com\/site\/how-to-configure-availability-sets-in-system-center-virtual-machine-manager-2012\/","title":{"rendered":"How to configure Availability Sets in System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2012"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Starting with System Center 2012 Sp1 Microsoft gives the oportunity\u00a0\u00a0to configure Availability Sets which work\u00a0the same as the Anti-Afinity rules that can be configured in Failover Cluster Manager through PowerShell.\u00a0By creating an Availability Set for two VMs, VMM will take care that those VMs will run on different hosts and that will never be placed on the same host. This is an improvement, especially if you are using guest clustering or you are running virtualized Domain Controllers.\u00a0Also, Dynamic Optimization will never move 2 VMs with the same availability group onto the same host, but will try to keep them seperated.<\/p>\n<p>In order to configure Availability Set you have to open the properties of one of the virtual machines and go to Hardware Configuration and then choose Availability.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/michaelstoica.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/availability.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-81\" src=\"https:\/\/michaelstoica.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/availability-300x253.png\" alt=\"availability\" width=\"300\" height=\"253\" srcset=\"https:\/\/michaelstoica.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/availability-300x253.png 300w, https:\/\/michaelstoica.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/availability.png 833w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Click on Manage Availability and create a new availability\u00a0set for your virtual machine.
